Our Story

It started with a sound.

A basketball. A backyard hoop. Long summer days. And that unmistakable SWISH when a shot finds nothing but net.

When I was a kid, my dad and uncles would jokingly call it “String Music” whenever they knocked down a perfect jumper and—more often than I'd have liked—beat me in our endless shooting contests.

Later, I learned that phrase came from legendary SEC basketball broadcaster Joe Dean, who made “String Music” his signature call for the purest shot in basketball: the one that finds only the net.

For me, though, it became more than a basketball phrase. It became a feeling.

That split second when everything is right. The ball leaves your hand, the world seems to pause, and then comes that perfect sound. You know before anyone says a word.

The more I played, the more I realized that every sport has its own version of that feeling—and its own music.

The swish of a basketball.
The pinging snap of a lacrosse net.
The ripple of a soccer goal.
The clang and catch of a hockey goal.
The pop of a tennis racket on a perfect shot.

Sometimes the music has only strings. But every good composition sometimes needs a little percussion-- the ping of a post, the click of the back rim, the clang of catching the inside of a crossbar. They're not mistakes in the soundtrack. They're part of it.

Different sports. Different sounds. Same feeling. And that MUSIC is the common denominator.

That's where String Music was born. It's our poetic definition of music, and the sports we love are the orchestra.  It's the way we hear the game.  At times, you don't even need to hear it—you see it, you feel it, and you can hear it in your own head when those strings ripple or pop.

Maybe we're stretching the definition of music. But that's exactly the point.

Music is rhythm. Emotion. Anticipation. Release. The satisfaction of playing a song just right and hearing that tune pitch-perfect.  And if you've ever played a sport you love, you know those sounds live there too. The squeak of sneakers. The bounce of a ball on the hardwood. The crack of a bat. The snap of a net. The pop of a perfect, unreturnable serve. And the roar that follows.

Sports have their own, unmistakable soundtracks.

String Music is about celebrating it—and it's for the people who know exactly what those sounds mean.

It's for the kid shooting alone in the driveway. The player taking one more rep after practice. The weekend warrior still chasing the perfect shot. The lifelong fan who can hear a moment before they even see it.

Because the biggest moments—the ones everyone sees and hears—are built in all those quiet moments of practice when no one is watching and no one else is listening.

So here's to the sounds you chase.
The moments you earn.
The music you make.

Let's make some music. Play loud.
